FileMaker Meetups: Seattle, Portland, Santa Clara & LA
Beezwax’s Vincenzo Menanno is hitting the road this week to visit our FileMaker colleagues across the West Coast, talking about “FileMaker Collaboration, Performance and Insight with InspectorPro”. Vince will be presenting our latest research, development and product offerings to FileMaker Developer Meetups in Seattle, Portland, Santa Clara and Los Angeles.
If it weren’t a 4-day work week, who knows what other cities we’d be visiting!
Here’s a schedule of events, dates and times — and a Big Thanks to Meetup organizers for your help in hosting Vince’s presentations.
- Tuesday, September 6th, 2016, 6:00pm – FileMaker Seattle
- Wednesday, September 7th, 2016, 6:00pm – PDXFM (Portland)
- Thursday, September 8th, 2016, 6:30pm – DIGFM (Santa Clara)
- Friday, September 9th, 2016, 9:30am – FMDiSC (Los Angeles)
We have a number of surprises up our sleeves that we can’t wait to show. If you’re a FileMaker Developer in any of these metropolitan areas, we hope to see you there!
Presentation: FileMaker Collaboration, Performance, and Insight with InspectorPro
InspectorPro is designed to be the perfect companion tool for FileMaker Pro Advanced, extending the Database Design Report (DDR) to provide more comprehensive analysis of the schema, scripts and design elements in your FileMaker solutions. Every new version of InspectorPro is built using the latest version of FileMaker itself, and takes advantage of new features in our favorite custom app development platform.
In this presentation, we’ll cover the newest iteration of InspectorPro, both as a developer tool and as a case study in building modern FileMaker solutions:
Team Collaboration
Heading into the future, FileMaker development often involves more than just the solo “Citizen Developer”. These days you may have multiple developers building different parts or versions of a solution, and other stakeholders who want visibility into work being done. How do you improve collaboration between those whose hands are touching code, as well as those observing from not too far off? We’ll examine InspectorPro as a solution running on FileMaker Server, and some ways to improve team collaboration.
Server-side Performance
InspectorPro introduced a new feature called “Perform DDR on Server”, leveraging the power of FileMaker Server to offload processing from your local copy of FileMaker Pro. The key is FileMaker’s PSoS (Perform Script on Server) — we’ll look at the results of this method, and how InspectorPro is crunching large DDRs.
Detailed Insight
- How can I clean up an inherited FileMaker solution, or my older databases
- What are best practices for inspecting references and dependencies?
- How can I look for problems across scripts, calcs, layouts, security, schema, and more?
Whether you have a solution you’ve been building for years, or are just getting started, there are plenty of important details that analyzing your FileMaker solution can provide insight into.
Discussion: Auditing at the intersection of PSoS + Transactions + Popovers (of all things):
With these 3 tools and techniques (Perform Script on Server, Transactions and Popovers), one can do some pretty amazing things when it comes to auditing. It’s something that we have been using more lately with great results. We’ll open up for discussion on using these techniques in your solutions.
